The Auburn Arts Association is presenting an exhibition of Patchwork Quilts and Blue Jean Creations by Auburn resident Flavin Glover. This exhibition features thirty-nine teaching examples of innovative Log Cabin quilts and denim creations made from old blue jeans.
Glover, an internationally known quilt designer, teacher and author, has a degree in Clothing, Textiles and Related Arts from Auburn University. Her workshops are conducted throughout the United States and abroad. Her patchwork quilts and original wearable fashions have been exhibited and published extensively since 1979. A quilt “Row Houses” was recognized as one of 100 Best American Quilts of the 20th century.
The eighteen wall quilts on display in the gallery were made between 2002 and 2017. The Blue Jean Creations range from tote and duffle bags, pillows, and eight denim animals displayed in a goat cart, to three vests combining quilted work with blue jean pieces.
The exhibition is on view from Jan. 17 to Feb. 23, 2018 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. The gallery is free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and during special events. For more information about the exhibitions in the Art Gallery, please contact the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center at (334) 501-2963 or visit www.auburnalabama.org/arts.
